On the whole new BX thing:
We could have a featured artist? Either one we all like or once we get enough users, have their work showcased for a day or two or maybe even a week in a special box!
Another thing would be to bring in some netlabels on our side. If we're trying to get more exposure for AP, getting a few places that have releases will be a good thing, with possible mentions thus further spreading the word. Same with some music blogs.
This is just a general comment on the role of the site and the role of the forums.
The site should be the primary place getting traffic, therefore much more prominent in terms of usage. I never went to the main site, or well I rarely did. I'm sure that a newcomer would spend even less time on the old version so...I mean if this is being sorted out then woohoo! On that note however, I think each contributing artist(up to a point...) should get a small paragraph with a few pictures of themselves/their work splashed about their bio page.
The forums should act as a behind the scenes get to know the guys behind the music AND also to get new tracks a bit earlier/see previews faster before they're posted up on the front page. Basically a goldmine for those who want to be more involved BUT not too powerful a presence to leave everyone in the dark.
Which brings me to another point: Perhaps we should have like a little news ticker or something displaying news about new artists, new releases on sites, etc? I mean it'll help fill up space and it would potentially lead to other avenues for AP. I mean, depending on what direction we want but at least in my mind this revamp of AP is making me fantasize about AP being a musical portal, for music news, reviews and for new up n coming people, releases etc, which well heres another idea i guess hehe
Should APoint do releases, I say that the uploader has the choice to upload single songs(to be posted on the main page) and then for an option to submit to AP to see if we would release it. The thing being basically the best of the best gets released and ya know other things just get put out whether or not they are as good as the releases....I don;t know something to toy with I guess...

Yeah, not having the songs for download would completely crap all over what we've always done, so there's no way that would ever happen.

As long as you plan to have an alternative, that's fine. And by that I mean being able to download songs. I thought you were just going to have the MP3 player and screw everything else.

Your perspective is flawed due to one issue. Flash is made by Adobe, and there are no good alternatives to it available for any operating system. If I decide I don't want to deal with their broken stuff, I'm out of luck.
However, web browsers on any operating system are easily replaceable. If Microsoft doesn't care to implement the new features in IE, users who really want to use it can use an alternative browser (and there are many).
It's not like you won't be able to listen to the music without the player, either. You'll just have to click the download link, and depending on browser abilities and/or settings, it can play in the browser or a media player of your choice.
The point is, I'd like to support an open up-and-coming standard that is supported by the majority of browsers. If IE users don't have the functionality of that little piece, it's not like the rest of the site is affected for them.
For what it's worth, Analytics shows that IE consists of about 6% of recent visits. Firefox, Opera, and Chrome blow it completely out of the water.

Maybe it is a little inaccurate but I'm a little jaded.
Also, yes, I agree with you about IE. But if you want your site to be at all successful you can't just go excluding groups of potential members out. It's just not the right thing to do as the owner of a website.
We have to have some sort of alternative method of delivering music to IE users or any other users that can't see HTML5 MP3 players for whatever reason.
As a side note, I don't have any problems like that with Flash. I have the occasional memory leak but it's nothing bad. And a lot of things I use have memory leaks. To put your comment about IE into perspective, what if I was the owner of AP and I decided I wanted to use a Flash MP3 player? I could be like "Yeah, people who don't have very good computers and some Linux users (or whatever it is that is causing you to have problems) won't be able to use it, but do you guys really care about them?" It doesn't feel very good.

Well, it is a competing browser's information that says that, so take it with a grain of salt.
Flash is not going to happen because it's a broken piece of garbage. I don't want to use 100% of both CPUs and several thousand threads running just so I can hear new tunes on the site.
If anyone thinks about mentioning how a bunch of other sites use Flash already... well, that's fine. Keep in mind that we are not those other sites, and so we're going to avoid Flash.
By the way, "way too unsupported" is not entirely accurate. It seems IE is the only major browser that is ignoring it, but do you guys really care about IE? Nobody should ever take that browser seriously, anyway.
