Artist: Venetian Snares and Speedranch
Album: Making Orange Things
Overall Rating: 7

Alrighty, so a few months back I went to Bart's CD Cellar in Boulder (yeah, hippie town, I know, wasn't my choice to go there, but I had to, it was a really *@&%!ing cold day, too), and took a look at what electronic selections they had. I was only in this place because it was a CD store, and therefore much better than anywhere else in that god-forsaken city, and also because I had a giftcard. So I picked up a copy of "Making Orange Things," mainly because I was in the mood to listen to some really, REALLY weird stuff. I had no idea what was in store. I ended up paying $0.31 (yes, 31 cents) for the CD, which was great. I like the cover art. It speaks to me, in very, very scary ways.

So I went to my dad's Volkswagen and popped this one in the CD player. I was assaulted with complete sonic hell. I mistakenly turned it up really loud too, which got me some really evil glares from passers by, who depending on their appearance, I either gave a thumb up to, or a middle finger up to.

Listening to this album, I discovered that it is a not-very-careful blend of pure noise and speedcore. It's not quite like the later V-Snares stuff. Not by a long shot. So this album did surprise me quite a bit. But holy crap did it make my day go well from there on out. Odd timed speedcore and noise is just confusing as hell, though. And really, the production value is nil.

Oh well. It's not something I would listen to on a regular basis, and that's why I dock 3 points. However, it is extremely satisfying when you're pissed as hell. Nothing quite takes out aggression like trying to headbang to this stuff.

FINAL SCORE: 7 out of 10

I haven't heard a lot of full albums by Venetian Snares but I still think Doll Doll Doll is the best thing he's ever done and ever will do.  That is an amazing *@&%!ing album, and probably very influential to speedcore/terrorcore/etc artists.  If not, it should be.

You know what I'm talking about.   devilsidesmile
